SciLifeLab and EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratory), one of the world’s leading research institutions and Europe’s flagship laboratory for life sciences, have intensified collaboration between the two organizations under a joint Memorandum of Understanding.
As part of this initiative, SciLifeLab will provide financial support for exchange visits between SciLifeLab and an EMBL site during 2025.
Eligibility: Financial support is provided for SciLifeLab infrastructure personnel, SciLifeLab Group leaders, and PhD students or researchers in these groups. The primary purpose is to support visits to an EMBL facility or EMBL research group to boost collaborations with EMBL, for the purpose of e.g. learning new technologies or discussing collaborative opportunities. The visit may be combined with attendance to a course, workshop or conference hosted by EMBL.
Some form of proof of a contact with the EMBL host (such as emails with a facility or research group) or other documents should be included in the application to justify the travel.
Financial information:
SciLifeLab covers travel, accommodation, and course or conference fee (if any) up to 20000 SEK.
All costs shall be reported by invoice to SciLifeLab/KTH as soon as possible but not later than December 10, 2025. Please note that, private expenses will be not be reimbursed – your institution shall cover the costs and send the invoice to KTH.

1. Motivation for how the visit will promote collaboration and/or knowledge exchange between SciLifeLab and EMBL
2. Career stage (with priory for junior scientists)
3. Affiliation (SciLifeLab aims to distribute grants nationally/across all universities)
3. Gender balance
4. Date of application (in case of equivalent applications, the grant will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis)
(previous awardees of a SciLifeLab-EMBL exchange grant will not be prioritised).
