There is a growing appreciation for the metabolic regulation during human neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration. However, our fundamental understanding of the basal metabolic characteristics of individual cell types is limited. Furthermore, these changes’ contributions to cell diversification, cell fate transitions, and eventually aging remain a mystery. Our group will study how these processes advance cell diversity in the nervous system, and how deviations lead to diseases during development and aging.
To address these challenges, we work within the intersection of analytical chemistry and molecular neurobiology to integrate tools/techniques and develop novel approaches to study metabolic contribution to single cell phenotypes.
