NBIS signs the Federated EGA Collaboration Agreement

The SciLifeLab Bioinformatics platform (NBIS) has signed the Collaboration Agreement for the Federated European Genome-phenome Archive (EGA), a secure archive for sensitive human genomics data, and have thereby formally joined the Federated EGA collaboration.

“We are very pleased to reach this milestone after several years of development. The FEGA Sweden node can now enter a new era of providing access to sensitive biomedical data contributing to a more FAIR landscape for research on genomes and phenotypes in Europe. EGA will also be an important infrastructure component for the European +1 Million Genome project”, says Bengt Persson, Director of NBIS and Head of Node ELIXIR-SE.

The Federated EGA Sweden node is an NBIS service. The deployed service software is a result of a long-standing collaboration between the Nordic ELIXIR Nodes in the series of NeIC, Tryggve, and Heilsa projects and NBIS’ Central EGA partners, EMBL-EBI and CRG. This collaboration has also helped to position the Nordic countries in ELIXIR.

“This achievement would not have been possible without our great colleagues and collaborators”, Bengt Persson concludes
