Modulation of Innate Immunity by Dengue Viruses: Feeling the STING
March 1, 2024 @ 09:15 – 10:15 CET
Professor Ana Fernandez-Sesma obtained her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Salamanca, Spain, and the Icahn School of Medicine Mount Sinai in New York. Professor Fernandez-Sesma is currently the Department Chair of the Department of Microbiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) in New York.
Her research focuses on the modulation of the innate immune system by viruses with public health potential such as Dengue (DENV), Influenza (IAV), Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Zika (ZIKV), and SARS-CoV-2. The goal of their studies is to understand the evasion mechanisms used by viruses to escape the immune system and establish infection in humans. Dr. Fernandez-Sesma’s research has greatly contributed to fundamental areas of virology, biology, and immunology using primary cell systems of dendritic cells (DCs) and macrophages, as well as lung epithelial cells combining immunology and molecular techniques.
