Bioinformatician (temporary employment)

at the Department of biochemistry and biophysics. Closing date: 13 November 2020.

Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab, www.scilifelab.se) is a national center for large-scale life science research with an advanced technological infrastructure. Much of the research at SciLifeLab is multidisciplinary and focused around DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis, proteomics, bioinformatics, biostatistics and systems biology. The aim is to enable Swedish researchers to analyze genes, transcripts and proteins in different organisms in order to map molecular mechanisms related to health and environment.

Some examples of research areas that currently are conducted within SciLifeLab are clinical genomics/proteomics, cancer genomics and complex disease genomics as well as ecological and environment centered genomics. Bioinformatics and systems biology are central activities within the center and a substantial part of the researchers at SciLifeLab are involved in these areas.

The National Genomics Infrastructure (NGI, https://ngisweden.scilifelab.se/about) is the largest technological platform at SciLifeLab. It is a national resource that offers a state-of-the-art infrastructure for massively parallel DNA sequencing and SNP genotyping, available to researchers all over Sweden. We hope to enable world leading research by enabling access to cutting edge genomics technologies, in addition to providing guidelines and support for sample collection, study design, protocol selection and bioinformatics analysis.

Main responsibilities
We are looking for a temporary (one year) bioinformatician / system developer to join our production team. The candidate will work with quality control of data, running analysis pipelines and delivery of sequence data. Additionally, there will be tasks involving the development and maintenance of informatics solutions that handle the production’s internal data flow. The time spent on different tasks will depend heavily on the applicant’s experience.

We attach great importance to the applicant’s personal qualities, such as good collaborative ability, ability to work independently, good organizational ability and accuracy. A positive attitude towards colleagues is a prerequisite.

Examples of typical duties include:

  • Quality control and delivery of sequence data

  • System administration of core IT systems
  • Coordination of software deployments and maintenance of analysis servers
  • Automation of data transfers and analysis pipelines
  • Maintenance and development of internal information databases
  • Answer support issues and communicate with external users.
  • Visualizations of processes and results

Qualification requirements
