First DDLS fellows on board
The first four fellows in the SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) have been recruited to Chalmers, Linköping University and Umeå University.
Recruitment of the first fellows is now finalized, and we are proud to welcome
- Clemens Wittenbecher, Precision medicine and diagnostics (Chalmers)
- Johan Bengtsson-Palme, Cell and molecular biology (Chalmers)
- Laura Carroll, Epidemiology and biology of infection (Umeå University)
- Wen Zhong, Precision medicine and diagnostics (Linköping University)
The four fellows are the first to be recruited in the program, in total 20 fellows will be recruited during 2022. Under the fellowship, the researchers are funded for five years with a total of 17 MSEK.
“On a program level, it is truly great to see the first four fellows under this comprehensive Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation-funded program come on board. On a scientific level, I am looking forward to meetings and collaborations with the entire community of 20 DDLS fellows being recruited this year to the 11 partner universities”, says Olli Kallioniemi, Director SciLifeLab and program director DDLS.
The 12-year initiative SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) is funded with a total of 3.1 billion SEK from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. As part of the program, 39 internationally outstanding early career group leaders will be recruited in the following four strategic data-driven research areas:
- Cell and molecular biology
- Evolution and biodiversity
- Precision medicine and diagnostics
- Epidemiology and biology of infection
“One major strength of the program is its long-term perspective. There is really an opportunity here to build a strong research community with data-driven research as a backbone”, says Erik Lindahl, Professor at Stockholm University, and member of the DDLS steering group.
The purpose of the SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science program is to recruit and train the next generation of data-driven life scientists and to create globally leading computational and data science capabilities in life science in Sweden.
