Successful first joint DDLS/WASP/WASP-HS conference

Last week, the first annual DDLS, WASP, and WASP-HS joint conference, The Disruptive Role of Data and AI in the Life Sciences, took place at the University of Gothenburg. The event was highly successful, attracting over 170 participants from the life sciences, data science, and humanities and society sectors.

The two-day event aimed to foster collaboration across disciplines, encouraging attendees to network, participate in panel discussions, and explore poster sessions. On the second day, participants had the opportunity to join the “magnet mingle,” where they could connect with potential project partners for the two DDLS/WASP and DDLS/WASP-HS calls.

The event featured three distinguished keynote speakers: Professor Sunduz Keles (University of Wisconsin, Madison), Professor Ross King (Chalmers), and Professor Klaus Lindgaard Høyer (University of Copenhagen), alongside presentations from DDLS, WASP, and WASP-HS researchers showcasing their joint projects. As Professor Tino Ebbers (LiU) remarked during the panel discussions:

“I came here thinking I would find one or two presentations interesting, but instead I found something interesting in all of them.” In summary, the conference addressed topics such as how data- and AI-driven research is shaping the future of life sciences, the development of new human-in-the-loop technologies and their applications, and the importance of research at the intersection of society, AI, and data-driven life sciences. The event also strengthened cross-disciplinary collaborations, with the ultimate goal of solving ground-breaking research questions that would otherwise not be solvable.
