Celebrating 10 years of the SciLifeLab master’s program

The Molecular Techniques in Life Science master’s program started in 2015, as the result of a unique collaboration between Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University, in the environment of SciLifeLab.

The master’s program is a 2-year program designed to prepare the students for a professional research career in life science, with a particular focus on molecular techniques for disease therapies and diagnostic tools, as well as bioinformatics and programming. The students receive a joint degree upon graduation.

“We are very happy to welcome the 10th batch of students to the Master’s Program in Molecular Techniques in Life Science. The program has developed over the years and the 3rd version of the curriculum is now running, which has an increased focus on computational skills for data analysis while maintaining a focus on the molecular techniques that generate this data. One thing that has not changed is the quality of the students, which remains at the absolutely highest level!” says Olof Emanuelsson (KTH, Programme Director).

We have previously talked to students starting in 2019 and 2022. “Most existing [programs] are either purely research, like wet lab research, or bioinformatics. I like both of them, so I was really happy when I found this blend, it was the best of two worlds”, said Ashwini Girishkumar back in 2019.
